Roots of Faith is a 6-session summary of the bedrock beliefs and confessions of followers of Jesus in the particularly Lutheran way. The centerpiece of this confession—this statement of core conviction and belief—is The Augsburg Confession. This document, along with more familiar Small and Large Catechisms, and a handful of other documents written by Luther, his colleague Philip Melanchthon and others are bound together is a single volume called The Book of Concord. The main focus of this concluding study for our programmatic year is to help congregants better understand our Lutheran heritage. Put most simply, we’ll be exploring the question, “What are the distinctive ‘things’ of faith, belief, organization, and practice attached to that label Lutheran?”

Each learner copy ($8), includes a short chapter for readings before each session and a section in the back for discussion questions. Help us control costs by signing up for your book—we’ll order what we need, plus a few extras. When you sign up, there will be an option to receive a copy of The Augsburg Confession–it can be a bit dense, but you might find it kind of interesting, as well. (We’ll be printing those “in house.”)

The first session will begin, Monday, April 28 at 1 p.m. (Pastor Sue’s small group), with subsequent groups also gathering on Tuesday, April 29, 8:45 a.m. (Pastor Mike); Wednesday, April 30, 10 a.m. (Pastor Connie); and Wednesday, April 30, 6 p.m. (Pastor Mike).
